Background to project:

How to Live in the 21st Century was undertaken by pressure group Compass ? Direction for the Democratic Left. Compass is a progressive charity that promotes social justice with over 3,000 members.
.

Purpose of project:

Compass undertook How to Live in the 21st Century as a way to give its members a say over its campaigning priorities and policies.
.

Project activities:

Individuals and organisations were invited to submit policy suggestions via a website or a paper-based form. These were then published online for Compass members to debate and scrutinise, whilst meetings were held around the country to discuss them.
.
To reduce repetition, contributors were encouraged to interact with each other and merge proposals if necessary. Compass members were then asked to vote for their favourite policies. These would then go on to be the organisations? two top campaigning priorities.
.

Project results:

Over 200 people participated in the exercise. The policies chosen can be found at www.howtoliveinthe21stcentury.org.uk
