Background to project:The Eastern Road area is located to the east of The Old Steine in Brighton and comprises the range of high and low rise flats and schemes that are situated either side of the top end of Eastern Road. Many of the residents in this area are older with the average age in the area being 59. It has only recently been identified as an area in need of additional resources and support.. The Eastern Road area Partnership (ERP) was established in Spring 2006 and has grown rapidly in strength. It now has representation from every community group or tenants association in the area as well as attendance from voluntary organisations and service providers such as Adult Social Care, Sheltered Housing and Sussex Police. The area has recently been chosen as a ?pathfinder area? for a Neighbourhood Charter. . Purpose of project:A Neighbourhood Charter is a document which sets out agreements between service providers and local people about actions and service standards for the area.. Project activities:The Councillors will meet local people and understand their concerns y attending residents' meetings and by knocking n people's doors.. They will also help tackle problems that appear to have got 'stuck' by raising them with the most senior council officers and facilitating dialogue between residents and service providers, and use the formal council 'scrutiny' process to try to investigate problems which are occurring in the Eastern Road area. . A Community Safety Action Group and a Health Action Group have been set up, and 2 Community Clean up & Green up events per year with residents, police and council are to be arranged. . Project results:The Feeling Safer, Feeling Healthier Charter is now available online at:. http://www.brighton-hove.gov.uk/downloads/bhcc/neighbourhood_renewal/Eastern_Road_Charter_-_Feeling_Safer,_Feeling_Healthier.pdf .
