Background to project:The Mayor of London is producing a regional Housing Strategy. In late 2006, he published 'Towards the Mayor's Housing Strategy' - a broad consultation document inviting comment from all Londoners on housing issues.. Purpose of project:Homeless Link and the GLA wanted to ensure that people experiencing homelessness directly contributed their views, experiences and priorities to the consultation. As the formal consultation was unlikely to engage people who were currently homeless, there was a need to use a different method to gather their valuable input.. Project activities:Homeless Link & the GLA developed 'consultation kits' explaining the background to the consultation and proposing questions to draw out experiences and aspirations relevant to the issues in 'Towards the Mayor's Housing Strategy'.. Homeless Link and the Homeless Families Network invited front-line homelessness agencies to run focus groups, using the consultation kits, with their service users. A training workshop was run for those agencies, looking at both regional housing issues and running successful focus groups. Agencies then fed back directly to the GLA. . The GLA offered small grants to offer incentives for service users to attend the consultation, such a lunch or food vouchers. The Mayor of London also sent thank you letter to all those who participated. . Project results:11 focus groups took place across London in early 2007. They provided valuable feedback which, along with other consultation responses, informed the draft Mayor's Housing Strategy (published September 2007)..
