Background to project:Online social forums have become increasingly popular over the past decade or so. Quiet Riots was launched in 2009 as the prototype for a new type of action-orientated web-based social networking software.. Purpose of project:Quiet Riots is a new networking and deliberation website, providing users with a forum to discuss and act on issues that interest them. The project also seeks to use Quiet Riots as a way for large organisations to engage efficiently with their service users.. Project activities:Like other social networking sites Quiet Riots allows users to join groups and post on group discussions. The project is still in its BETA stage; as a consequence there a relatively low number of users and you need to ask a central administrative team to set up a new Riot (topic). In the near future the project aims to allow users to join without permission and create their own Riots autonomously.. As well as facilitating discourse between individuals on specific topics, Quiet Riots seeks to turn deliberation into action. Every time an organisation or company is the topic of a debate, the Quiet Riots team sends them an open letter summarising the deliberation. Organisations are then free to join Quiet Riots and contribute to the discussion, thus facilitating a dialogue between the two parties. .
