International Workshop on Building Citizen-Centred Policies and Services, Ljubljana, Slovenia This workshop provided a unique forum for policy dialogue and exchange of good practice, tools and tips for building citizen centred policy and services based on concrete experience. It was co-organized by the OECD and the Government of the Republic of Slovenia with the support of the World Bank’s Communication for Governance & Accountability Program (CommGAP), DECIM, the European Citizen Advisory Service (ECAS) and Involve.
OECD Public Management Review: Ireland The first ever OECD Public Management Review, “Ireland: Towards an integrated Public Service”, published on Monday 28 April 2008, asseses reforms over the past 10 years, and looks at how the Public Service can work together better as an integrated whole in response to societal demands and the need to maintain competitiveness.
Towards measuring government performance A new OECD Working Paper, "Towards Government at a Glance: Identification of Core Data and Issues related to Public Sector Efficiency", is the second of three papers being released in preparation for a new biennial publication to be launched next year. The series, Government at a Glance, will provide a set of key indicators of good government and efficient public services to help member countries to better assess, plan and measure their public sector reform agenda.

But fostering individual and social development requires more than that. A wide range of issues from employment, trade and labour standards, health, family, gender-equity to education and population ageing needs to be addressed.)
OECD takes up the torch of gender equality and women’s empowerment On 21/5/08 the Swedish Minister for Development Co-operation Gunilla Carlsson presented MDG3 champion torches to the OECD’s Secretary-General, Angel Gurría, and to the Chair of the DAC, Eckhard Deutscher. The presentation was part of the Danish government’s MDG3 Global Call to Action to increase international support and investments in the achievement of gender equality and women's empowerment (MDG3). The last of 100 torches will be presented to the UN Secretary-General on 25 September.
The OECD Family database is LIVE The Family database (via www.oecd.org/els/social/family/database) is being developed to include cross-national information on family outcomes and policies as categorised under 4 broad headings: the structure of families, families and children, the labour market position of families, public policies for families and children, and child outcomes. Economic Survey of the Czech Republic 2008: Tackling labour and skill shortages The recent strong growth has resulted in labour shortages and so activation of remaining labour supply is desirable. The main reserves are among prime age women and older cohorts and there is further room for skill deepening through education policy.
OECD promotes the economic and social benefits of gender equity Family-friendly workplace practices and attention to gender equity in hiring and management help to improve productivity and economic performance, OECD studies show. To mark International Women's Day, OECD is highlighting aspects of its work on gender issues and promoting diversity in its workforce.
