Setting the scope
The purpose of defining the scope of a participatory activity is to clarify what the boundaries are: how much can really change as a result of the exercise. This will help you to decide whether participation is the right thing to do and what level of participation is appropriate.
How will participation make a difference?
Participation can achieve real and lasting benefits, but is not always the solution. You should only go ahead with your participation project if:
- it is clear how it can make a difference
- there a demand or interest from potential participants to get involved
- there are sufficient resources to make the process work properly
On the next page you will answer some questions which will help you determine whether or not participation is suitable in your situation.
